How is the summer tourist season in the domestic market?
Ilya Umansky, Acting President of the Russian Union of Travel Industry (PCT), General Director of the tour operator "Alean" is sure that the summer tourist season in the domestic market can be called successful.
“... we are in all respects close to the precocious year 2019. Although not without problems, as there are many events that affect negatively. A key factor is changes in air travel and the closure of most key southern airports, leading to difficulties in moving.”
Umansky is sure that the figures for the season in any case will be good.
We see that the Krasnodar Territory, despite the fact that there were problems until mid-July in occupancy, with the exception of Sochi, is now almost full, it has good performance. Sochi’s August load is close to 90%. Other resorts of the Krasnodar Territory are close to 80%. This is a kind of average load, some hotels are full, some are underloaded, but in general about 80%, which is not bad, especially in the current circumstances.”
According to him, problems remain in Crimea, where the average occupancy of hotels is close to 60%.
“It rose from June and July, as tourists stopped putting off vacations in anticipation of planes flying. They drove their cars. The resorts of the Krasnodar Territory were loaded, and tourists went a little further. Crimea also rose in the load, but to say that this season is successful for them is not worth it.
According to him, prices for holidays in Russia increased due to air transportation and accommodation in hotels.
The average increase in prices for accommodation in Russia was within 16%, while Sochi hotels rose the most – by almost 19%, as demand for Sochi was increased due to the fact that the city’s airport remained the only one in the south.
He added that especially prices have increased at high-level hotels 4-5*, hotels in the economy segment did not show significant growth.
