How will Turkey convince tourists to come on holiday?

Turkey It is one of the first countries in the world to restore international tourism after the removal of restrictions due to the coronavirus.

Tourism and Culture Minister Mehmet Ersoy said in a "post-coronavirus era" perception of a tourist destination as "viral free" would become "extremely important."

The Ministry of Tourism intends to introduce certification of tourist facilities for safety from COVID-19 until the return of international flights and compliance with hygiene standards.

Certification will cover all the “pillars” of the tourist process: reception, accommodation and leisure of tourists, that is, airlines, transport, hotels, museums, restaurants, staff.

Hotels will ensure social distancing, sterilization, health checks and personal protective equipment for employees.

Mr. Ersoy said that the certification system, which will be developed in Turkey, will be an example for the whole world. For international recognition of the initiative, foreign companies and health experts will be involved in certification.

The minister believes that the certification system is not a “plan to get out of the coronavirus”, it is a “consumer priority” that Turkey will follow.

Mm. Ersoi believes that the first tourist movement will open domestic tourists. The situation with the coronavirus should normalize by the second week of May, which will allow to launch long-distance communication and open resorts - but for locals.

The arrival of foreign tourists will not begin until mid-June.

The recovery of foreign flows will begin in Asian markets, followed by Germany and Austria, where the situation is improving. Further, visitors from Central Europe and the Nordic countries are welcome in Turkey, where there is a positive trend.

I think these markets will start opening gradually after mid-June. Uncertainty persists in Russia and the UK. They can only come at the end of July, Ersoy said.

Erkan Jagci, chairman of the Association of Hoteliers and Operators of the Mediterranean (AKTOB), is confident that the presence of “health certificates” in hotels will create a “feel of hygiene and security”.

“The coronavirus will change the way we think about tourism. Starting in 2021, the guest will focus on health and hygiene.
