What are Thailand’s plans to launch tourism soon?
Office of Tourism Thailand (TAT) insists on the opening of popular tourist resorts as part of the Sandbox plan from July 1.
Under the terms of this “sandbox”, for foreign tourists who received two or one dose of coronavirus vaccine, but registered in Thailand, 6 resorts will open: Phuket, Krabi, Phang Nga, Koh Samui, Pattaya, Chiang Mai.
Phuket will be the first resort to abolish quarantine obligations for vaccinated foreign tourists under the Phuket Sandbox program. The opening is scheduled for July 1, 2021. Tourists will be able to travel around the island for the first seven days before heading to other resorts in the country.
The press release did not name the documents or travel restrictions that could be imposed on international travelers in the six boroughs.
The government continues to work on vaccination programs on the island “to secure herd immunity against Covid-19 for 70% of Phuket’s population, including local residents, tourism workers and migrant workers.”
So far, about 90-100,000 residents (less than 25% of the permanent population of the island) have been vaccinated. The government is trying to buy more vaccines to reach 100 million doses to vaccinate 50 million people across Thailand by the end of the year.
