Cruise liner has become an outcast because of the coronavirus: he will be allowed to disembark tourists on the seventh attempt
The liner Westerdam (cruise operator Holland America Line), “stuck” in the sea due to panic over the coronavirus, will drop tourists on the seventh attempt.
According to the official statement of the company, the liner was sent to Cambodia, the port of Sihanoukville.
In Cambodia, 1,455 passengers will be able to disembark. Westerdam is currently heading to Sihanoukville in Cambodia. All permits have been obtained and we are very grateful to the Cambodian authorities for their support.”
Tourists will be taken by charter flights to the capital Phnom Penh, from where they can return home. Holland America Line will take care of the costs of the flight and will reimburse the cost of the trip.
The cruise operator emphasizes that despite erroneous reports, there are no cases of coronavirus or suspicions of it on board and never was - last week the captain of MS Westerdam reported that there are about 1'400 tourists on board with symptoms of coronavirus, it is possible that some tourists had elevated fever due to a cold, but on the wave of fears the captain over-insured.
The airliner was denied docking in five countries – Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, the Philippines, and the U.S. territory of Guam prevented it from entering.
There are 1,455 passengers on board, including 650 Americans, 271 Canadians, 127 from the UK, 91 from the Netherlands, and tourists from Australia, Germany, China and other countries.
Travelers from the United States have already sent messages to President Donald Trump urging them to evacuate “at least on an aircraft carrier.”
