What routes do foreign tourists choose in Russia?
Moscow and St. Petersburg - popular destinations among foreign tourists, but travelers are increasingly paying attention to the Murmansk region and Lake Baikal.
Dmitry Gorin, Vice President of the Russian Union of Travel Industry (PCT).
Russia is visited most actively by tourists from China, but this year the number of visitors from Eastern countries has increased significantly. This is confirmed by the statistics on issued e-visas, according to which 50% of tourists come from China, as well as a significant number of visas received by citizens of Saudi Arabia and other countries.”
According to him, recently there has been an increase in the number of foreign tourists coming to Russia for business reasons.
If we look at forecasts for autumn, we expect an increase of 30% compared to last year. Although the summer months traditionally remain the most active season for tourists, since autumn, there are also many requests, which is facilitated by the presence of direct flights.
Gorin also noted that the number of tourists is increasing even from countries with which Russia does not have direct flights. However, the total flow of foreign visitors has not yet reached the pre-pandemic level, when about 4 million tourists with organized tours entered the country annually.
“Simplification of visa formalities also contributes to the development of inbound tourism. Currently, citizens of 55 countries can obtain electronic visas to enter Russia. Visa-free group travel for Chinese citizens continues to be popular. We hope to further simplify the conditions for such travel and even to abolish visas. A particularly expected event will be the strengthening of cooperation between Russia and India, Gorin concluded.
During the year, 540.9 thousand foreign citizens issued electronic visas to enter Russia. Among them, Chinese citizens received 254 thousand visas, in second place were tourists from Saudi Arabia (43.4 thousand), and the third – from Germany (42.6 thousand).
