Culinary adventures in Yekaterinburg
The Museum of History of Yekaterinburg presents a delicious exposition called “Travels of the Sverdlovsk gourmet”. The exposition will be interesting not only to those who remember the Soviet catering nostalgia, but also to the younger generation, who have already forgotten that Yekaterinburg was once called Sverdlovsk.
The journey begins in the factory dining room, where you will remember the assortment of a typical Soviet dining room. Fish Day on Thursdays was created to encourage the development of the fishing industry. Fish, however, never became popular in the Urals and could not compete with traditional dumplings. Sverdlovsk dumplings is dedicated to a separate room. After a modest dumpling, where the order had to wait for 30 minutes, you will get to the Soviet restaurant. The most luxurious and inaccessible in Sverdlovsk were the restaurants "Bush" and "Ural dumplings" (they say that it was Boris Yeltsin's favorite establishment). There is a completely different "non-Soviet" atmosphere: the kind waitresses themselves bring dishes, no self-service! Orchestra for three rubles you can order your favorite song, and for a certain amount at the table can plant beautiful women! Children at this time it is better to leave in the Sverdlovsk ice cream cafe "Penguin". It turns out that ice cream appeared in the USSR only in 1932, when the first equipment for the production of cold dessert was brought to Moscow from the United States. The Soviet Union produced 25 tons of ice cream per day. By the way, every visitor to the exhibition will receive a filling as a gift and not in a waffle cup, but in an aluminum cremanc.
Travels of Sverdlovsk gourmet can be joined until April 3, 2011 in the Museum of History of Yekaterinburg at the address Karl Liebknecht 26.
