Reichstag dome to be reopened to tourists
The terrace and dome on the roof of the German Reichstag will soon reopen to visitors. Already at the end of April, namely the 21st, pre-registered, anyone will be able to visit this incredible building.
Recall that since December 22 last year, the dome was closed, as in the German edition of “Spiegel” there were reports about the threat of a terrorist attack. Therefore, in order to avoid the threat of hostage-taking by Islamists, the entrance to the building was closed. To get to the roof of the Reichstag could only pre-formed and approved groups consisting of participants of official delegations or groups from large tour companies.
It is worth noting that the glass dome is incredibly popular with tourists. Its diameter is 40 meters, and its height is 23.5 meters. Inside the dome there is a staircase where visitors can climb up. But in the center of the building there is a reflective mirror cone, with the help of which daylight is sent to the plenary meeting room, located 10 meters below. The 360 mirrors that cover the cone reflect sunlight every day.
From the end of the month, this unique architectural composition will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 12 a.m. Up to 25 visitors will pass through the checkpoint every 15 minutes. Entrance to the Reichstag and the dome terrace is free. Starting from April 7, everyone can sign up for a tour on the official website of the Reichstag.
