The foreign Ministry urged all Russian tourists to return home

The coronavirus pandemic shakes up the world’s foundations: countries close their borders, and foreigners who find themselves in a foreign country become a headache for their authorities and for the authorities of the country where they are stuck.

“Where there is still the possibility of leaving for Russia, we strongly recommend using it, regardless of the modes of transport and transfers,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said on its website.

A similar call to urgently evacuate to Russia by all available means was posted on Twitter and the Consulate General of Russia in Istanbul. In fact, we are talking about a complete cessation of tourism in the most popular destination among Russians.

On March 17, the Russian Foreign Ministry, chaired by Sergey Lavrov, held an operational meeting on the issue of “ensuring the interests of Russian citizens who found themselves in a difficult situation due to restrictive measures taken by foreign states to counter the spread of the coronavirus.”

The need for Russian diplomatic missions to take exhaustive measures to assist Russian citizens wishing to return to their homeland in resolving logistical issues was emphasized.

The Coordination Staff was created under the leadership of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia O.V. Syromolotov, the head department is the Situation and Crisis Center (SCC).

We ask all those who find themselves in a difficult situation to immediately contact the nearest Russian embassy abroad (embassy, consulate general) and report about themselves and their situation, including their location and other necessary data. This can be done by emergency phone numbers or through RZU social networks, the Foreign Ministry said on its website.
