The losses of European countries from the absence of Russian tourists

Vice-President of the Russian Union of Travel Industry Yuri Barzykin said that the losses due to the absence of Russian tourists in various European countries will amount to one billion euros.

According to Barzykin, these countries were Germany, Greece, Spain, Italy and France.

All the countries where guests from Russia were the main contingent, of course, suffered losses. Suffice it to say that prosperous Turkey, where Russians traveled most often, lost almost half. The Mediterranean countries have also been hit, losing a billion euros each.”

Also, industries related to tourism suffer, since travelers from Russia were among the three who most often made purchases.

According to him, Finland lost more than €300 million. This particularly affected the border areas.

Russian travelers were among the three most active in shopping, along with tourists from China and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Russians bought many additional services and excursions.

“So not only tourism, but also transport and other related industries have suffered greatly,” the expert said.

Barzykin explained that the number of tourists decreased not only due to restrictions on entry for Russians, but also due to difficulties with logistics and payment systems.

About 20% of outbound tourism was redistributed to domestic tourism. So there is no harm without good, there have been positive changes in our tourist market, he concluded.
