"Night at the Museum" in Moscow on May 14

This Saturday, May 14, Moscow will host the fifth Night at the Museum. This time, the organizers decided to extend the time of the museums, and make the entrance free. This action is becoming more and more popular every year. There are so many people who want to visit museums that some especially interesting museums line up, but not everyone manages to visit the expositions before closing.

This year, 160 organizations announced their participation in the action, which is almost 30 more than last year. Of these, 24 are federal museums, 18 are departmental, 34 are non-state museums and galleries. Last year, there were about half a million visitors. Obviously, there will only be more this year.

Most museums offer free admission. But some will still charge an entrance fee, such as the Historical Museum. Almost all museums will be open until 12 a.m., some until 23 a.m., but private galleries will be open until 2 a.m., and some until 6 a.m.

According to representatives of the Ministry of Culture, six museums will be the central venues this night. Various large-scale events are planned near them and on their territory. The main venues will be: Tsaritsyno, Provisional shops, the exhibition center "Worker and Kolkhoz Woman", the estate "Kuskovo", the museum-panorama "Battle of Borodino", the exhibition hall "New Arena".

For the convenience of visitors on this night there will be three public transport routes, which will leave about forty buses. They will run around the city and stop near museums. The first route will run along the Garden Ring, the second – in the south-west of Moscow, and the third – on the estates of the city. The interval of bus traffic will be 10-20 minutes.

Another museum event is scheduled for Wednesday, May 18. Every year on April 18 and exactly one month later on May 18, the days of historical and cultural heritage are celebrated. Museums are open to visitors for free these days.

Interestingly, this year the Moscow metro is also taking part in the action. So, at the station "Kropotkinskaya" will perform chamber orchestra. Only 500 people will be able to attend the concert, and therefore all tickets for the concert were played in advance on the Moscow metro website.
