Banksy's new work unveiled on hotel wall in Bethlehem

The Independent reports that the English underground artist Banksy decorated the Walled-off Hotel in Bethlehem with his new work, which depicts the scene of the birth of Jesus Christ.

The name of the installation – Scar of Bethlehem (“Scar of Bethlehem”) is one letter different from the phrase Star of Bethlehem (“Star of Bethlehem”).

Banksy's work is a classic nativity scene with the Virgin Mary, the baby Jesus and St. Joseph against a gray wall. Instead of the Star of Bethlehem, a hole is located above the holy family, which resembles a trace from a projectile.

The background is part of the separation barrier between Israel and the West Bank.

The concrete wall is the barrier that separates Israel from Palestine.
In Israel, it is believed that the wall protects citizens from terrorists; in Palestine, it was built to seize their lands.

Opened on the border between Israel and the Palestinian Authority, the Walled-off Hotel was designed to have the world’s worst view from windows in an effort to break the prejudices against Palestinians in Israeli society.
