Thai hotels demand authorities to open up the country to tourists and threaten mass bankruptcies

The Thai Hotel Association has asked the government to immediately open the country to foreigners.

Otherwise, hotels, the occupancy of which has been almost at zero for several months, will begin to collapse en masse – they simply will have no other option.

“The government should consider ways to welcome tourists from certain countries or cities, using marketing campaigns to lure them back,” said Marisa Sukosol Nunbhakdi, chair of the association.

She notes that many tourism businesses cannot obtain bank loans and the government must arrange financial assistance.

Thailand He is working on a pilot project to receive foreign tourists. However, only true fans of Thailand will be able to “overcome” the “safe and sealed” project of receiving tourists while only in Phuket – the project involves passing several tests and a week-long quarantine, with the ability to move away from their place of stay no further than a kilometer.

The government is optimistic about the plan. Piphat Ratchakitprakarn, the minister of tourism and sports, said that if the plan works in Phuket, it could be implemented in other parts of the country, including Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Ubonratchathani, Udon Thani, Chonburi.
