2.5 billion rubles is the total amount of damage to tourists from the bankruptcy of tour operators, including Matryoshka Tour, Aurora, Rainbow Travel, DSBW, Danko, RossTour, Pearl River and others.
The bankruptcy of twelve tour operators in 2018 prevented the implementation of about 13.1 thousand tours (more than 27 thousand travelers).
Yulia Alcheyeva, Deputy Director of the insurance company ERV and head of the working group on liability insurance of tour operators at the All-Russian Union of Insurers (VSS), reports that the greatest losses among travelers were when the tour operator Natalie Tours left the market. The total damage from non-fulfillment of its obligations to tourists by this company is 1.8 billion rubles, more than 12,000 travelers suffered, most of them received compensation for 4.9% of the tour amount due to insufficient financial guarantees.
Insurance companies due to the departure of tour operators from the market in 2018 paid 200 million rubles. The average amount of payments to tourists “Danko” and “RossTour” is 50 thousand rubles per person.
Alcheyeva is sure that in order to exclude the current situation, when tourists who do not receive adequate reimbursement of the cost of their tours suffer because of travel companies, it is necessary to change the financial responsibility of tour operators and their relations with insurers.
