Prime Minister of Spain announced the victory over the coronavirus and called the dates of the opening of tourism
Spain "One step away from defeating the coronavirus," Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said.
He officially confirmed that in July the country would open its borders to foreign tourists and promised that it would be safe for the population and tourists.
“The worst is over. We touch the light at the end of the tunnel with our fingertips.”
In Spain, 361 new cases of infection were recorded per day, a total of 235 thousand patients per country.
According to Pedro Sanchez, the country will be available for national and international tourism in the summer. “From July, foreign tourism will resume in safe conditions. We guarantee that tourists will not take risks or bring us any risks.”
Tourism accounts for about an eighth of Spain’s economy, and 12 million jobs have been lost in quarantine due to the closure of tourism infrastructure – hotels, bars and restaurants to beaches and amusement parks. Spain’s economy could shrink by 12%.
There are demonstrations in Spain against quarantine and the government. Madrid has been paralyzed by a car rally organised by the far-right Vox party. Protesters took to the streets in their personal cars and motorcycles – the rally took place across the country.
Quarantine lifting in Madrid and Barcelona is due to begin on Monday. In other cities, bar terraces, museums, churches have already begun to work.
