Ranking of the fastest growing countries by tourism in 2019

The UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has named the countries where tourism is growing the fastest.

Rating in order:

Ecuador grew 51%, from 1.6 million to 2.42 million visitors. Travelers are attracted by the Galapagos Islands archipelago with unique nature.

Iran Despite attempts to “close” the country to tourists from the “civilized world”, it shows an increase of 49.9%, 7.3 million people.

Egypt The country, which is still partially “open” to Russian tourists, shows an increase of 36%. Relative calm on the political front is reviving the local tourism industry.

Uganda shows an increase of 31.9%. The point of attraction is natural wealth, the residence of mountain gorillas.

Nepal was hit by an earthquake in 2015, but is returning tourist arrivals and rising to 24%. Basically, the country’s offer is everything related to mountain tourism – both serious ascents and “public” tracks.

Slovenia - 23% increase. Active promotion plus natural resources, plus lower prices – all this allows tourists to call the country the “ideal alternative” to expensive European destinations.

The Palestinian Territories is another “non-trivial” destination on the list with a growth of 20.5%, with tourist arrivals generating pilgrimage tourism.

Vietnam - up to 19.9 percent. The country is cheap, friendly, beautiful, the food is impressive. In 2010, only 5 million people visited Vietnam. In 2018, 15.5 million people.

Georgia - closed to the Russians due to demonstrations. Up 16.9 percent. In 2018, the number of visits reached 5 million.

South Korea - up to 15.1 percent. The tourist flow is more than 15 million people.

“Headed” the rating of decline in demand Qatar and Puerto Rico - a decrease in tourist flow by more than 19%. The reasons are political and climatic. Qatar has a forced embargo from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain. For Puerto Rico, the effects of Maria in September 2017 are still reverberating.
