Russian travelers in Thailand lived in a cave: waited for the coronavirus

A couple of Russian tourists living in a cave on the island of Krabi, found the police of the island. The couple set up a tent in Tonsai Bay, Reilly Beach.

At the Ao Nang police station, where they were invited to investigate the circumstances, tourists showed the following. They arrived in Thailand about two months ago. Tourists visited the police station last month, complaining that their camera and drone had been stolen, but “the police were unable to find their belongings.”

In early April, all hotels on the island were closed. The tourists said they knew no one and had nowhere to look for help. The couple had to survive on their own: they found a cave in Tonsai Bay, where they expected to live until the end of the Covid-19 crisis in Thailand, after which they hope to return to their country.

Travelers were taken to a hospital in Ao Nang to check their health: they had no fever or Covid-19 symptoms. The police asked what they were going to do next. The tourists replied that they could not return to Russia until the situation was stable.

The travellers were taken to one of 4 hotels in Krabi, which are allowed to remain open to support foreigners in the region. It was also reported to the Russian Embassy in Thailandto keep them informed of changes in the situation.
