Russians will receive for flight delays up to half a million rubles

"Rossiyskaya Gazeta" reports that from December 28, the maximum payments to passengers of foreign flights registered in our country will change.

According to the document of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), compensation in case of death or injury will increase from 9.9 million to 11.2 million rubles.

If the flight is delayed, the passenger will be entitled to demand a payment of up to 466.5 thousand rubles (previously 409.6 thousand rubles). When the airline lost luggage, the maximum compensation will be 112.4 thousand rubles instead of 98.7 thousand rubles.

The rules apply to passengers of foreign flights in countries that have signed the Montreal Convention (i.e. Russia, EU states, USA, Japan, Brazil, China, India).

Experts note that the above-mentioned amounts of compensation are possible only with the maximum actual damage. Passengers will have to prove everything on their own.

For example, to prove the real value of lost luggage, valuable items will need to be declared in advance, otherwise compensation will be calculated on the actual weight of the luggage. Waiting for maximum payments in such a scenario is unlikely to be necessary.

On flights within the country, payments for damage to health and loss of baggage are regulated by federal aviation rules, and rules established by airlines in the format of a public offer, or prescribed in contracts. An hour of delay is compensated to air passengers in the amount of 25% of the “penalty” minimum wage (25 rubles).
