Are Russians starting to cancel tours to Italy?
Domestic tour operators note that information about the appearance of the coronavirus in Italy has provoked requests for cancellation of tours, but they are not yet implemented, as they will take place with the retention of costs actually incurred by the companies.
Some Italian cities have been quarantined for coronavirus cases. There were 222 in northern Italy on the morning of February 25, of which 101 had no symptoms.
“... requests for cancellation for upcoming dates ... are not mass-scale. Some customers are concerned, others are more balanced in assessing the situation and do not cancel their trips, especially skiers, who are not affected by this, the company said.
In Italy, there can be 6-7 thousand organized tourists, a total of 20 thousand Russians can rest in the country.
Nadezhda Efremova, head of the legal service of ATOR, notes that
" We are talking about small settlements (three to five thousand inhabitants), which are not objects of visits by tourists, most often customers do not make decisions on cancellation of tours to Italy. Most often, individual trips to major exhibition events are canceled. But mainly because their organizers have already announced that they will not take place in order to avoid crowds of people from different countries.”
The cancellation of tours to Italy is carried out within the framework of the current legislation in the field of tourism and consumer protection, with the retention of costs actually incurred by tour operators. Tourists are advised to “make informed decisions, which should be based on facts and official statements of authorized state authorities”.
