Rosturizm is preparing a plan for the development of ecological tourism on Baikal

Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Victoria Abramchenko instructed Rostourism to develop a roadmap for the development of eco-tourism on Lake Baikal, taking into account the forecast of an increase in the flow of visitors.

Already on the shores of Lake Baikal there are not enough tourist infrastructure facilities for comfortable accommodation of visitors, and "a significant number of citizens are placed on the unequipped shores of the lake, move outside ecological trails, having a significant anthropogenic impact on the environment."

It is necessary to take measures to prevent negative impact on the environment while realizing the growing tourism potential.

“According to Rostourism, about 1 million tourists annually visit Big Baikal, the annual increase in interest is up to 20% <...> in the next 10 years the number of tourists on Baikal will double,” the press service said.

V. Abramchenko noted that “... concrete steps have been developed to eliminate the comments adopted by the decisions of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee. Measures and assessment of the state of preservation of the Lake Baikal facility have already been brought to the Committee.
