Rostourism proposes to introduce electronic visas for citizens of 52 countries

The head of Rostourism Zarina Doguzova at a meeting of the State Council for Tourism Development said that she would propose to the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry Sergey Lavrov to introduce electronic visas for entry into the country for citizens of 52 countries.

She asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to return to the discussion of the electronic visa.

The head of state supported the proposal to simplify the issuance of visas to tourists.

Earlier, on September 7, the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova said that the Ministry began to promptly study the instructions of the head of state on liberalization of the visa regime for foreigners.

The procedure for issuing an electronic visa was approved in autumn 2020, and the launch of the system was planned from 2021.

No invitation, hotel reservation or other documents confirming the purpose of the trip were required for registration.

It was enough to fill out a questionnaire, upload a personal photo and a copy of a passport, pay a consular fee and wait for notification. The visa was valid for 60 days from the date of receipt. It was allowed to stay in Russia for no more than 16 days.

Due to pandemic restrictions, no electronic visas were issued.
