RZD will increase ticket prices

Russian Railways yesterday announced a possible increase in the depth of ticket sales to four months. At the same time, the price of a ticket for long-distance passengers in 2017 will grow by 3.9%, which is lower than the forecasted inflation, said Russian Railways President Oleg Belozerov.

All long-distance passenger trains are included in the dynamic pricing system. When forming the fare, it takes into account the category of the place, the day of the week, the depth of sales and the level of demand when forming the cost of tickets.
In the autumn of 2016, the Russian government zeroed VAT on long-distance passenger rail transportation. In the Ministry of Transport, the additional income of the Federal Passenger Company (“daughter” of Russian Railways engaged in long-distance transportation) from VAT zero was estimated at 15.7 billion rubles a year while maintaining ticket prices.

According to Mr. Belozerov, the net profit of Russian Railways (according to RAS) in 2016 amounted to 6.5 billion rubles. In 2015, it was equal to 318 million rubles. Thus, at the end of 2016, the profit of Russian Railways increased by 20.4 times.
