The most expensive city in the world
According to a study by Canadian USB Bank, Oslo is the most expensive city in the world.
The bank has compiled a list of 73 world megacities, among which the Norwegian capital took first place. In second place was Zurich, and in third – Geneva. The study used data on prices, salaries and purchasing power in participating cities. The data was collected from March 2009 to June 2010.
In the top ten most expensive cities were also: Tokyo, Toronto, Copenhagen, Stockholm, London, New York and Montreal.
But the cheapest city was the European Bucharest, in Romania. In economic terms, it was surpassed by Manila and Mumbai.
Note that the rating of cities had a significant impact on the exchange rate. For example, a 20 percent rise in the Canadian dollar helped Toronto and Montreal move from 10th and 15th to 8th and 9th respectively.
Such studies are very useful not only for tourists, but also for companies that plan to open offices in other cities and want to know the level of wages and living standards in the world capitals.
