How much are Russians willing to spend on traveling around the country and abroad?
The NAFI Analytical Center has published a report “Tourism Services Market: Consumer Behavior and Plans of Russians”.
The percentage of people who can spend more than 60 thousand rubles on their future vacation has decreased over the past year. The main price expectations form the so-called “pre-middle class”.
NAFI confirms the trend towards saving tourists in 2018. In a survey last year about future holidays, Russians wanted to spend less on vacation than in 2017.
A third of Russians in 2018 wanted to go on vacation abroad (33%). Travel to other countries are planned by Muscovites, St. Petersburgers, and young people aged 18-34 (44-46% vs. 15-35% in other age categories).
Among those who in the future were going to go to rest in other countries, almost half (46%) intend to spend on a trip no more than 40 thousand rubles (per person).
Increased (32% against 24% in 2017) the number of those who can give foreign holidays from 40 thousand to 60 thousand rubles. Twice less than a year ago (14% in 2018 against 26% in 2017) are ready to pay for a foreign trip from 60 to 100 thousand rubles. From 4% to 6%, more people are willing to spend more than 100 thousand rubles per person on vacation.
The willingness to spend does not depend on the age of the respondents – this indicates the stratification of the tourist audience. Vacation in Russia are ready to spend more than half of Russians (58%), often about this desire say people of cities with a million people (65%).
Most Russians consider domestic tourism as a budget holiday: 73% of respondents intend to pay less than 40 thousand rubles for a trip. In 2017, the figure was 67%, and in 2016 - 47%. A fifth of respondents (almost the same as in 2017) are ready to increase spending on vacation to 60 thousand rubles.
To spend on vacation in Russia the amount of 60-100 thousand rubles in 2018 were ready two times less Russians than a year earlier – 5% of respondents (12% in 2017).
Most Russians save money for vacation (87%). One in ten borrows money from friends or relatives (9%) or travels at their expense (8%). Most often, young people aged 18 to 24 years (18% borrow money from relatives or friends, 20% go at the expense of others). 4% of Russians are ready to rest “in debt to banks” – take loans.
In 2018, the share of the middle class in Russia fell compared to 2017: last year, 19% of respondents attributed themselves to the middle class against 25% in 2017. Less than 2% of respondents said they could easily buy a car or apartment. The center of tourist active audience of Russians is located between these groups.
Among the population of cities with millions – the main audience of travel companies, 60% of respondents attributed themselves to the “pre-middle” class – the audience creates a demand for low-budget vacations, is looking for “burning tours” and discounts.
