Thailand: entry rules to change from 16 December

Authority Thailand On Friday, it was announced that the rules of entry for foreign tourists will be relaxed from December 16.

Notable exemptions apply to tourists entering the test&go scheme. For them, mandatory PCR tests will be replaced with antigen tests, which are done in 15 minutes. They will no longer need to book a night in advance at a hotel and a taxi from the airport, choosing from the government-approved SHA+ list. At the airport, they can do an express test and go on vacation.

The test&go scheme is valid from November 1, for citizens of 63 countries that have made the vaccine against coronavirus allowed vaccines, Russia is not among them.

Russians can enter Thailand under the sandbox scheme from September 1. Since November 1, it extends to 17 provinces, the most popular among tourists - Bangkok, Phuket, Krabi, Surat Thani, Phangga, Chiang Mai, Phetchhaburi and others. For entry within the sandbox, there is a requirement to be vaccinated with two doses of vaccine, and a second must be given no earlier than 14 days before travel. It is still necessary to book a hotel from the approved SHA+ list for the first days of stay, but from December 16 it will need to be booked not for 7, but for 5 days.

There remains a requirement to have a PCR test on arrival at the airport. The second test will need to be done not on 6 or 7 days, as before, but on 4 or 5. At the same time, the mandatory second PCR test is canceled, instead you can take an express antigen test.

Travellers over 6 years of age after December 16 will be required to have a certificate of negative PCR test done no earlier than 72 hours before travel to Thailand. Children under 6 years of age traveling with their parents will not need a preliminary test.

From December 24, entry under the sandbox scheme will be allowed not only by plane, but by land and sea.
