Tunisia hopes to join EU airspace

Tunisia is negotiating an Open Skies agreement with the European Union and expects to reach an agreement by autumn. “We have already started negotiations with our European friends and perhaps sometime in September we will reach some final solution,” said Tuhami Abduli, the secretary of state of the Tunisian foreign ministry.

He noted that the Tunisia Three ministries are engaged in promoting the issue of "open skies" - the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of International Cooperation. The diplomat also said that the country’s authorities plan to build a new large airport near the capital in the coming years. “We have plans in the next three to four years to build a new airport, somewhere 20 kilometers from the capital, which will greatly facilitate the arrival of tourists in the country, including under the Open Skies program,” he said.
