Turkey to ease anti-cove restrictions

The Hurriyet Daily News reports that the Turkish authorities announced their withdrawal from the lockdown after May 17 due to the gradual decline in the number of coronavirus cases.

“By bringing the pandemic under control, we are going to take steps to normalize and control the epidemic after the month of fasting Ramadan. We planned to get rid of this scourge before the end of last year, but all the new waves of the pandemic have affected not only our country, but the whole world. We were forced to take restrictive measures again, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in a televised address on the occasion of the end of the post of Uraza Bayram.

According to Erdogan, to fight the coronavirus is supposed to use all means, including vaccines. He added that the authorities are aware of the problems of people whose work has been affected by the pandemic and are ready to address them.

Currently, Turkey has strict restrictions on long-distance travel, markets and grocery stores operate from 10:00 to 17:00 and sell only food and essential goods, and restaurants and cafes sell food only takeaway.

The country has a curfew, but foreigners staying in Turkey for tourist purposes may not adhere to it.
