Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting with members of the Russian government supported the introduction of electronic visas in Russia from August 1, 2023.

Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova proposed to expand the list of 52 countries whose citizens will be able to obtain an electronic visa to Russia, and include in it Vietnam. Cambodia and Myanmar.

Tatyana Golikova called it inexpedient to deprive citizens of unfriendly countries of the opportunity to travel to Russia: “... we consider it inappropriate as a response to the unfriendly actions of the official authorities of states to exclude for their citizens the possibility of obtaining a single electronic visa for short-term trips to our country.”

Holders of diplomatic and service passports from unfriendly countries will not be able to take advantage of the opportunity to obtain an electronic visa.
