In Russia, daily rental of apartments is prohibited

Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev signed a decree banning the provision of hotel services in residential premises of apartment buildings. The document is published on the official portal of legal information.

It is forbidden to place industrial enterprises and carry out missionary activities in apartments, except for the cases provided for in Article 16 of the Federal Law “On Freedom of Conscience and Religious Associations”.

Residential premises can be used for professional or individual business activities, but only if there is no violation of the rights of other citizens.

Experts say that now the daily rent of apartments in Russia will be outlawed, in particular, it may affect those who rent housing on Airbnb.

The Hostels Act, which prohibits the use of accommodation as hotels, came into force on October 1, 2019. The amendments do not apply to the conclusion of lease agreements for residential premises (long-term lease).

Earlier, the Constitutional Court confirmed that in Russia it is not prohibited to use housing for worship. The law does not allow only such use of premises in which they actually cease to be such.
