Venice celebrates St. Mark's Day

In Venice, April 25 will be the day of St. Marko, the patron saint of the city. His remains were brought from Egypt to his homeland in 828. According to legend, two merchants hid the relics on a ship under a pile of pork. Since Muslims do not eat this meat, customs control has been passed.

On April 25, residents of the city celebrate the holiday with a solemn mass in the Cathedral of San Marco, it is also customary to hold a regatta in the bay. There are many legends and traditions associated with this day. So, for example, it is customary to give your second half a bud of scarlet rose. Why this particular flower? One day a young man and a girl from different hostile clans fell in love. They were separated by a plantation of roses that blossomed right before their eyes. The young man gave a rose to the girl. Unlike Romeo and Juliet, everything ended well, and the rose became a symbol of love and reconciliation.
