Bali authorities intend to tighten the visa regime for Russians
The Jakarta Post reports that Bali authorities appealed to the government Indonesia With a request to cancel visas on arrival for Russian and Ukrainian tourists, as they try to look for work in the country by entering on tourist visas.
Governor of the province V. Kostera: “I wrote a letter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Justice with a request to cancel visa privileges for Russians and Ukrainians.”
In Indonesia, it is forbidden to work and create a business for foreign citizens visiting the country as tourists.
Russians and Ukrainians abuse tourist visas and try to get a job in the country or start a business. In March, several Russians were deported for violating the visa regime, and immigration authorities warned foreigners in Bali against working on tourist visas.
Russians occupy a significant share of the total foreign tourist flow to Indonesia. From September 2022 to January 2023, 77.5 thousand Russians visited the country, which is slightly less than in the same period before the pandemic (88 thousand).
