Greek authorities have named the month when the tourist season will begin

Greece On May 4, the quarantine was relaxed. People are allowed to go outside and move freely, with hotels set to open to guests by June. The Sun reports.

Greeks no longer need to draw up and present a special pass document indicating a valid reason for going out, but face masks are mandatory - police conduct raids on public transport and in shops.

Small shops and establishments, including beauty salons and opticians, can open from May 4, and schools, restaurants, bars will begin operations this month, but later.

Hotels are due to open from June 1, but will only accept Greeks at first. Guests are likely to face unusually tough measures and rules, without which the opening of objects is impossible. Along with the positive news, there are reports that up to 65% of hotels in Greece may go bankrupt due to falling profits.

To enter the country, foreign visitors – predicted to be possible in July – will have to show certificates of immunity or health passports. The requirements are not formulated, but, judging by other European countries, for example, Spain, the test for infection must be taken no earlier than 24 hours before presentation at the airport.

Tourism Minister Harry Theoharis added that tourists will need to undergo a medical examination to enter the country. It is very likely that we will have new requirements for foreign travelers and, of course, all measures are taken to ensure that every tourist can feel confident that during the trip people will not come into contact with those who have the virus.

Mr Teoharis intends to ensure the full season opens in July and continues until at least September, even if many hotels do not open this year.
Tourism in Greece is the backbone of its economy.
