Domestic tourism in Russia will reach pre-pandemic level in 2021
Vice-President of the Russian Union of Travel Industry (PCT) Yuri Barzykin said that by the end of 2021, domestic tourism should return to the precocious indicators, the restoration of outbound tourism is hampered by a limited number of open countries and the lack of charters.
“The recovery is in the outbound market, but more so in the domestic market. Last year, the proportion of domestic to outbound tourism was 90 to 10 percent. This year, 80% of the domestic and, I think, up to 20% will gain away, he said at a press conference.
According to Barzykin, Krasnodar Krai and Crimea will almost reach the level of 2019.
Tourist flow to the Krasnodar Territory - 12.4 million for 8 months, to the Crimea - about 6 million, but by the end of the year they hope either slightly below 2019, by 5-7%, or to reach the level. 70% of outbound tourism comes from Turkey. In August, there was an increase in sales, but until the end of the year the tourist flow will not return to pre-pandemic, he said.
The expert noted the need to open new destinations for foreign trips so that tour operators can fulfill their obligations on tours in 2020.
Natalia Osipova, Executive Director of the Alliance of Travel Agencies (ATA), recalled that all open tourist destinations, except Turkey and the Dominican Republic, have regular flights.
