WHO declares coronavirus pandemic in the world: the epicenter of the epidemic – Europe, became the new China
The spread of the Covid-2019 coronavirus in the world has become a global pandemic, said Tedros Adhan Ghebreyesus, Director General of this Agency at the UN, at the WHO headquarters in Geneva on March 11.
A pandemic in Greek means an entire nation, a global epidemic characterized by the spread of infection throughout a country or group of countries, sometimes around the world.
“Right now, the epicenter of the coronavirus has moved to Europe, which has become the new China,” said Dr Tedros Adhan. There are a lot of people coming back and forth from Europe who are now starting to spread this infection around the world.
The total number of new coronavirus infections worldwide is 118,000 people in 114 countries. According to the WHO, 4,291 people died.
The head of the UN agency said WHO was "deeply concerned by the alarming levels of coronavirus spread and the severity of its effects as outbreaks continue to spiral out of control in Italy and Iran."
The epidemic in China, where it began in January, began to slow in March. Europe is now the centre of the epidemic.
