WHO approves Russia’s approach to coronavirus control

Tedros Ghebreyesus, head of the World Health Organization, praised the measures taken by Russia and other countries in the fight against the coronavirus.

“There are a few countries that have not reported any new cases in the last two weeks: Belgium, Cambodia, India, Nepal, the Philippines, Russia, Sri Lanka and Vietnam ... their example proves that aggressive early measures to prevent the spread of the disease help,” he said.

He called the emergence of patients in the country a challenge that must be addressed immediately, and stressed that there are no guarantees against the emergence of new cases of infection.

As an example, he cites Sweden and Finland, where the number of cases has not changed, but the day before new cases were announced.

T. Ghebreyesus emphasizes that a comprehensive approach is needed in the fight against the coronavirus, he noted the coordinated actions of the Chinese authorities, who are making serious efforts to contain the infection.

It is too early to declare a pandemic despite the global spread of the disease.

At the end of 2019, China reported an outbreak of unknown pneumonia in the city of Wuhan. The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the outbreak an emergency of international importance, the disease was named Covid-19.
