All hotels in Russia should get stars

Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev approved the regulation on the classification of hotels. All hotels are required to receive stars.

Dmitry Medvedev noted that the stars were previously assigned to the hotel at will, often “regardless of the real services” they provided.

The new rules are made to ensure that travelers are confident in the quality of service. The document prescribes norms and a set of services that belong to each category.

Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets: “The Ministry of Economy guarantees that within five days from the date of submission of documents, the hotel or the object that claims to receive stars will receive the necessary qualifications under this system.”

The law on the phased introduction of mandatory classification of hotels on the principle of stardom was adopted in 2018. In 2019, it will cover hotels with more than 50 rooms (about 40 thousand enterprises). From 2020 - hotels with more than 15 rooms, from 2021 - the rest.
