Gidan Makama Museum
Emir Palace Road, Kano, Nigeria
About the company:
Gidan Makama Museum, founded in 1953, is located in a historic building of the XV century. Its huge popularity among tourists is due to the magnificent Sudanese style architecture and priceless collections kept here.
The museum’s extensive expositions cover Kano’s long and distinguished history. Here are unique exhibitions, including art, crafts and artifacts of historical value. The galleries show Kano maps and reproductions of city walls, history of statehood, civil war, economy and industry. At the entrance to the museum there are two guns left after the conquest of the city by British colonizers. Giant pots found during archaeological excavations "welcome" visitors in the museum's courtyard.
The Gidan Makama team is working hard to preserve Nigeria’s historical and cultural heritage.
