Christmas

Description:

This holiday for Nigerians is not conceivable without masquerades
In Nigeria, it is more common to celebrate Christmas than New Year. This holiday for Nigerians is not conceivable without masquerades. Speaking of masquerades, Nigerians are referring to the traditional colorful dance, which is a symbol of celebration among Nigerians. After all, in dance, you can appeal to your African gods and good spirits with a request for well-being.

Christmas traditions in Nigeria are not very different from those of other countries. At Christmas, as a rule, they try to invite friends to their home or celebrate the holiday in the family circle. All evening the people have fun, loud music is heard, folk festivities cover the whole country.

The table is covered with a tablecloth in Christmas patterns, and each plate has a popper with a crown and a surprise. Usually on the table you can see turkey, smoked pork ham, casseroles of vegetables, beans, a special hot drink of cream, eggs and rum - egnog, and, of course, traditional Christmas pudding or fruit cake, which is cooked for several days - soak the fruit, then bake for a long, long time.
