Description:

"May Day" Solomin N.N.
The first of May is a holiday, especially popular in Europe and traditionally associated with the flowering of spring and the riot of vegetation. On this day, it is customary to go out or go outside the city, collect flowers and green branches, and then decorate themselves with greenery and flowers, their houses, courtyards and outbuildings.

The central element of the holiday was the custom of bringing a large tree into a village or city and installing it in the middle, on the main square. Smaller trees, decorated with flowers at the top, young guys installed under the windows of their loved ones, and if the girl’s house was not one, but several such trees, the girl’s parents could rightfully be proud of the good fame and beauty of their daughter. If a girl with a bad reputation lived nearby, a straw man was hung under her window on a tree.

This day is also considered a political day in Norway. This is why meetings and demonstrations are held in many Norwegian cities on May 1.
