Sightseeing tour of Bergen (individually)

Description:

Bergen is known as the gateway to the fjord kingdom. The name is fully justified, because this small town, known all over the world, is located on the coast of the North Sea surrounded by high mountains. Bergen is visited annually by millions of tourists. Why is he so attractive?

Bergen is a city with a rich history and traditions, with a special charm and atmosphere, so inherent in small towns. There are picturesque places, and cultural attractions, and vibrant urban life. Part of the city's popularity is due to the Bruggen embankment, preserved in the form in which it existed during the Hanseatic League. The first buildings of Bergen appeared here – on the ancient embankment, which for centuries remained the most important and busiest part of the city. This promenade and historical part of the city are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List and protected by the state. Bruggen is considered the most famous medieval settlement in Norway. For 400 years the area was controlled by Hanseatic merchants. The territory of Bruges has been repeatedly affected by fires. The last one happened in 1955. The houses were constantly rebuilt, trying to preserve the architecture typical of Northern Europe at the time. When you walk along narrow alleyways and dark outer galleries, it seems as if you have fallen into the past. The Hanseatic League Museum was founded in 1872. It will introduce you to the living and working conditions of German merchants in Bergen. The city also has Shetstüen, the Hanseatic meeting halls, where you can get an idea of how the Hanseatic merchant lived. Built in the process of archaeological excavations, the Bruggen Museum will tell you about trade, craft and everyday life in the Middle Ages. Just behind the museum is the Church of St. Mary. Built in the XII century. the church building is considered the oldest in Bergen.

In good weather, the city must be seen from a bird's eye view. The Fleubanen funicular will quickly take you from the city center to the top of Mount Fløyen, 320 m above the Ur. m. From here there is a magnificent view of the city, fjords and sea waves. Back, you can slowly go down the path into the city and plunge into the hustle and bustle of the Bergen Fish Market.

In Bergen, ancient wooden houses are preserved, huddled along the edge of the mountain slopes. Walking through the narrow streets between the houses, you will feel what a real Bergen is.

Most travelers come to this city for a single place on earth. We are talking about the house-museum of the great composer Edward Grieg, which is located in the estate of Trollhaugen, which is 5 km from Bergen. Grieg spent 22 years here. During this time, working in a small garden wing, he wrote many of his most famous works. The ashes of the composer and his wife Nina are buried in a mountain grave near the house. What is a sea city without marine life? In Bergen there is an aquarium where you can see seals and penguins, as well as amazing creatures inhabiting the sea strata. There are even inhabitants of the tropics: crocodiles, snakes, turtles and monkeys.
