Frognerpark

Kirkeveien/Middelthuns gate, 0268 Oslo, Norge, 23 49 37 00

Description:

In 1914, a large exhibition was held at this place, and a fountain was commissioned for the sculptor. Instead of the fountain, the master proposed to decorate the park with a grandiose sculptural composition. The Oslo City Council supported the idea. So Vigelan worked for 40 years to realize his dream.

As a result, an amazing creation was born, combining naturalism and symbolism with a realistic interpretation of human life. In this sculptural composition, one theme varies - human life from birth to death.

A sculpture of a crying, angry boy has become a symbol of Oslo and is depicted on numerous postcards and souvenirs.

It is worth noting the unusual design of the entrance to the park - a gate with quadrangular lanterns and a grille with a thin through pattern, as in stained glass windows.

The park also has two museums – the Vigelan Museum, where you can see about one and a half thousand of his sculptures and 12,000 drawings, as well as the Museum of the History of Oslo.
