University Botanical Garden
Trondheimsveien 23B, Oslo, Norway
Description:
One of the many natural attractions of the Norwegian city of Oslo is the University Botanical Garden, located in the Toyen district. It was founded in 1814 and is now run by the University of Oslo. Initially, the area of the garden was 75,000 square meters, but now it exceeds this figure by exactly twice. The collection of the University Botanical Garden includes about 35,000 plant species, of which 7,500 are unique.
There is a large staff of gardeners and researchers who annually breed about 1000 species of perennial and 2000 species of annual plants. The Oslo University Botanical Gardens is in close cooperation with other botanical gardens in Norway, so there is always new natural material for research.
Currently, the garden is focused on the conservation of endangered vulnerable plants in Norway, as well as the dissemination of science-based knowledge in the field of botany and gardening to the general public.
