Churchill Monument
Description:
The Churchill Monument is a bronze portrait statue of the British Prime Minister during World War II, Sir Winston Churchill (1874–1965). It is located in the center of Oslo Norway in front of the Ind-Ex house in Solle Square. It is an exact copy of the original, located in Parliament Square in London.
The height of the monument is 3.7 m. It is based on the famous photograph of Churchill, when he in a military cloak inspected the House of Commons after it was destroyed during the German bombing on the night of 10 to 11 May 1941.
The monument was erected in the city on May 8, 1976 and borrowed from a private collection under the direction of Hans Høeg. It's a little smaller than London. It represents power and strength and is erected in gratitude for Churchill’s decisive efforts in the fight against Hitler’s Germany and Nazism.
How to get there: Oslo, Henrik Ibsens gate (walk from the central railway station for about 15 minutes).
