Sculpture of a walking tiger
Jernbanetorget Square, Station, Oslo, Norway
Description:
Tiger near Oslo Central Station - one of the most photographed "residents" Oslo is one of the first to welcome visitors to Oslo Station.
On the 1000th anniversary of the city, Eyendomspar wanted to make a gift. The people of Oslo wanted a tiger, and this is what they got: a 4.5-meter bronze tiger created by Elena Engelsen.
Why did the people want a tiger?
The reason why the inhabitants wanted the tiger is the nickname of the city Tigerstaden ("City of Tigers"), which is familiar to most Norwegians. The Norwegian poet Bjørnstierne Bjørnson first called it so. Sidste Sang tells the story of a horse and a tiger. The dangerous city is represented as a tiger and the horse as a quiet countryside.
