About the company:
The National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design, founded on July 1, 2003, brought together under one roof the Museum of Architecture, the Museum of Applied Art, the Museum of Modern Art and the National Gallery. Also, on July 1, 2005, it was joined by the National Expo. The buildings of the Museum of Applied Art, the Museum of Modern Art and the National Gallery house three main expositions.
Exhibit exhibitions (Riksgalleriet) have been held since 1953. Since 1988, they collaborated with the Museum of Contemporary Art and received a new name, but since 1996 the cooperation has ceased. In the Museum of Applied Arts you will see an extensive collection of objects from different cultures and peoples, from examples of East Asian art to Greek amphorae.
Visiting the National Gallery, founded in 1837, you can get acquainted with such works of Norwegian art as the works of Edvard Munch, as well as the works of foreign masters - Vincent Van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Claude Monet, Henri Matisse. The museum contains paintings by masters until 1945.
From here, E. Munch’s painting The Scream (1893) was stolen, returned by the police on May 7, 1994. The Museum of Applied Arts will acquaint you with exhibits of decorative and applied art, starting from the VII century ( tapestries, furniture, clothes, royal costumes, household items, ceramics, various silver products of that time).
