Tucker Family Museum

5 Water St, St. George's, St. George's Parish

About the company:

The Tucker Family Museum was built in the 1750s on St George's Central Street. Today, this museum is part of the Bermuda National Trust. There are preserved furniture and other items of interior and everyday life, including antique things - hand-embroidered blankets, furniture made of mahogany.

The Tucker family played a huge role in the history of not only Bermuda, but all of England and America. Henry Tucker and his family have lived in this house since 1775. He was appointed from 1775 to 1807 as President of the Board of Governors of Bermuda. Henry Tucker's younger brother served for many years as Queen Anne's secretary.

In the kitchen of the Tucker house lived and worked a slave from South Carolina - Joseph Rainey, who later became the first African-American in the US House of Representatives.
