Beit al-Safah Museum
Oman, Muscat Governorate, Al Hamra
About the company:
The Beit al-Safah Museum is located in the old Omani city of Al Hamra. It provides visitors with the opportunity to get acquainted with the traditional way of life of old Oman. The museum is located in a two-storey clay building with a roof of palm leaves, all household items, furniture and utensils here as in the old days are made of stone, wood, copper and brass.
At the entrance to the museum you can see a large clay vessel with water, allowing the Omanis to keep it cool even on the hottest day. Walking through a small corridor, you will enter the Great Hall, a room where Omani women used to do household chores and traditional crafts. From the main hall, the staircase leads to the second floor - here you can get acquainted with the architectural and decorative features of Omani interiors - see thick walls, a flat roof, wooden beams on the ceiling, carved palisandre doors and woven carpets. The rooms exhibit antique household items, as well as a collection of cutlery.
In Beit al-Safah you can have dinner with national Omani cuisine, drink a cup of fragrant coffee with halva and other sweets and watch performances of folklore ensembles.
