Fortress in Taka Village
Oman, Dhofar Governorate, Salala City, Taka Village
Description:
Taka is a small old fishing village located in southern Oman, east of Salala. The main attraction of Taka is the medieval fort, recently reconstructed and opened for viewing by tourists. Built of clay bricks on a hill above the village, a small fortress evokes associations with the castles of the Crusader Knights. The fort also served as home to a local ruler.
Passing through the old wooden doors, you will get to the courtyard of the fortress From here along the steep narrow stairs you can climb the walls and admire the beautiful view of the bottom of Taka and the endless sea.
Most of the buildings in the fort, except for the watchtowers, are two-storey. The fortress has preserved a prison building, with surprisingly small cells, a storeroom for storing food, an arsenal and a medieval kitchen. The fortress exhibits a large collection of weapons decorating the walls of the interior. Old costumes and dishes are also exhibited here.
On the second floor of the fortress were the personal quarters of the ruler and his family. On the walls of these rooms are exhibited some household items and elements of interior decoration.
