Port Cristobal

Port of Cristobal, Avenue Bolivar, Colon, Panama

Description:

For more than half a century, the commercial port of Cristobal has been operating in Polon, Panama. According to history, the first wooden piers built in this city date back to 1851. They were designed to disembark workers and unload materials that were involved in the construction of the Panamanian Transcontinental Railway. This small port was a marina for passenger steamships that ran from New York to California. Then there were only 4 equipped docks, one of which was loading arriving building materials directly onto the train.

As early as 1997, the Panama Port Company began to modernize Cristobal and adapted it to transport cargo in containers. These changes allowed to expand the embankment to 3,731 meters and install 10 portal cranes. The second wave of renovations, made in 2005, brought with it the expansion of the warehouse area to 6 hectares, 7 new portal cranes and 660 meters of deep-sea berths.

At the moment, the port can provide such services as renting 408 refrigerators, 3 gantry cranes with a carrying capacity of 50 tons, a cruise terminal, a new quarantine and customs zone for veterinary control of animals and baggage checks.
