Description:

The National University of Asunción, founded in 1889, is one of the best higher education institutions in Latin America. From its walls graduated Felix Paiva (lawyer, journalist and politician of Paraguay, interim President of the Republic in 1921 and 1937-1939), Oscar Nicanor Duarte Frutos (President of Paraguay in 2003-2008) and Luis Federico Franco Gomez (Paraguayan politician, President of Paraguay since 2012).

In the early stages of its existence, the university operated only a few faculties: law, medicine and mathematics, school of scribes, pharmacy and obstetrics. It has 12 faculties, offering students a full range of learning opportunities, several scientific institutes, scientific and technical centers and postgraduate studies. The academic community consists of 40,000 students and 6,200 faculty members.

In recent years, the National University has intensified its outreach activities, conducting activities aimed at disseminating scientific knowledge in society.
