Holocaust Remembrance Day

Description:

Auschwitz camp
Auschwitz. A symbol of cruelty and hatred. This concentration camp was the largest of all death factories. He and the other concentration camps were supposed to “solve the problem” with the extermination of the “inferior races” in the occupied territories. From all the occupied lands, civilians and prisoners of war were brought to concentration camps. Men, women and children were tortured, starved, killed, and corpses burned in crematoria. Doctors in concentration camps performed medical experiments on people.

Auschwitz was built by special order of Hitler near the Polish city of Krakow in 1941. During the existence of this concentration camp, about four million people became its victims. When the first Ukrainian Red Army Front liberated Auschwitz on January 27, 1945, only 3,790 people were rescued, 158 of them Russians.

January 27 is the day of remembrance of victims of concentration camps, victims of the Holocaust. This day is celebrated around the world with a minute of silence in memory of the dead, the ceremony of laying wreaths at the memorials of people who died during the Second World War.

A memorial to the victims of Auschwitz and the Holocaust is held in Krakow. Representatives of most countries of the world, heads of state, former prisoners and veterans of the Soviet Army who once liberated the concentration camp come to the ceremony.

Remembrance Day is widely covered by the media. In Krakow, journalists of all the leading information companies of the world flock. To this day, special thematic exhibitions are opened, which present terrible testimonies: documents, photographs of killed and surviving prisoners, stories of those who liberated the concentration camp, and those who were there. Concerts dedicated to the memory of the victims of fascism and church services are held.

This day is not only a memorable event, but also a call to people around the world: to prevent the recurrence of the nightmare.
